The High Performance Centre is a sports facility of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, located on the shores of the Mar Menor, in the municipality of Los Alcázares.
The special microclimate of the area means an absence of winds in the early morning and late evening, ideal for canoeing, rowing and waterskiing, and winds of average speeds during the rest of the day, which are good for sailing. Moreover, the mean annual temperature is 18ºC (65ºF).
The Mar Menor is 13 miles long and 6 1/2 miles wide, with 37 miles of coastline. The average depth is 16 1/2 ft, with a maximum of 23 ft.
The Mar Menor is a little sea separated from the Mediterranean Sea by a slender strip os sand known as the Manga del Mar Menor. And these seas are connected by a navigable channel.
